Oct. 7, 2013 – The Rocky Mount/Edgecombe Community Development Corp. (RMECDC) celebrated the grand opening of the Holly Street duplexes with community residents on Saturday, Oct. 5.

RMECDC partnered with the City of Rocky Mount Redevelopment Commission and Down East Home Consortium in its efforts to revitalize the Holly Street neighborhood area by developing affordable single and multi-family housing.

The Holly Street GREEN Housing Initiative project included the development of four affordable, energy efficient rental units. Eight more units are planned and construction is projected to begin in late October. Each unit is 867 square feet with an open floor plan in the living room, kitchen and dining room area, along with two bedrooms and one bathroom. Green features include Energy Star certified windows, doors, appliances and HVAC, programmable thermostat, energy efficient sheet rock, trusses, insulation, and drought tolerant plants outside.

“The RMECDC board of directors and staff are pleased to continue to develop affordable housing and neighborhood revitalization initiatives in Rocky Mount,” said Joyce Dickens, president of RMECDC.

The Holly Street GREEN Housing Initiative funders and sponsors include the City of Rocky Mount, City of Rocky Mount Redevelopment Commission, Down East Home Consortium, N.C.
